South Korea uses Korea Standard Time, abbreviated KST. KST is UTC+9: Korea is nine hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. Korea does not use daylight saving time in 2026. That makes one part simple, but a booking can still be wrong when a flight, hotel, ticket and confirmation email show different local times.
The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science explains Korean standard time as UTC(KRIS) plus nine hours. See its standard-time FAQ. For the current 2026 time-zone record, see Seoul time information. Always trust the time-zone label on the booking screen over a remembered conversion.
The rule and the date boundary
Use this rule: KST = UTC + 9 hours. Adding nine hours can move the calendar into the next day.
| UTC time | Korea time | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-11-03 14:59 UTC | 2026-11-03 23:59 KST | same date |
| 2026-11-03 15:00 UTC | 2026-11-04 00:00 KST | next date |
| 2026-11-03 15:30 UTC | 2026-11-04 00:30 KST | next date |
If you arrive at a hotel at 00:30 KST on 4 November, that is late at night after 3 November. The calendar arrival date and the accommodation night are not always the same thing. A standard reservation beginning with afternoon check-in on 4 November does not normally guarantee a room at 00:30. To use a room immediately, you may need a room booked from 3 November or an early/late-arrival arrangement confirmed in advance. Marriott’s published guidance gives this as an example: an after-midnight arrival can need the prior night included, and the arrival time should be recorded; it also asks guests arriving after midnight to contact the hotel directly. See Marriott’s early check-in guidance and late-arrival guidance. These are Marriott examples, not rules for every hotel. Check the property’s check-in time, accommodation-night definition and no-show policy. Do not treat this example as an instruction to book a specific date.
Flights show local departure and arrival times
Airline schedules normally show departure in the departure airport’s local time and arrival in the destination airport’s local time. A long flight can arrive on a different calendar date even when the duration is normal. Voyage Privé states this convention in its flight-time help page. Compare the full date, local time and airport for both ends. Do not subtract time zones from the printed arrival time unless you need to understand the journey; the airline’s itinerary is the record for the booking.
Before connecting transport in Korea, check whether your arrival is early morning, evening or after midnight in KST. A train, airport rail service or hotel desk may use its own local schedule and operating date. Build a margin for immigration, baggage and the transfer. This article does not estimate those times.
For a rail arrival, use the KTX booking guide and confirm the date and time on your actual ticket.
Daylight saving time changes other countries, not Korea
Korea stays on UTC+9 in 2026. Many departure countries do not. New York ends daylight saving time on 1 November 2026, and London ends it on 25 October 2026, according to New York clock-change data and London clock-change data. This changes the difference from Korea even though Korea’s clock does not change.
These verified examples show why the date and zone label matter:
| UTC moment | Seoul (KST) | London | New York |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-24 15:00 | 25 Oct 00:00 KST | 24 Oct 16:00 BST | 24 Oct 11:00 EDT |
| 2026-10-27 15:00 | 28 Oct 00:00 KST | 27 Oct 15:00 GMT | 27 Oct 11:00 EDT |
| 2026-11-03 15:00 | 4 Nov 00:00 KST | 3 Nov 15:00 GMT | 3 Nov 10:00 EST |
Do not reuse an October conversion for a November booking from London or New York. The local zone has changed. Your phone can be helpful, but set the event’s time zone explicitly in a calendar entry when it matters.
Check every reservation in this order
- Identify the location of the service: Seoul, Busan, your departure airport, or an online event.
- Read the date, time and printed zone together.
- For flights, read departure and arrival as separate local times.
- For a hotel near midnight, confirm the check-in time, accommodation night and no-show rule with the property.
- Keep the confirmation email or screenshot until the stay or ticket is complete.
Tickets, tour meetings and online sales sometimes state a zone in small print. “10:00” without a location is not enough information to convert safely. If the page does not state a zone, ask the seller before buying. This is particularly important for limited release times, cancellation deadlines and video calls.
KST itself is stable in 2026. The error risk comes from the place where you are, a daylight-saving change in another country, and the hour around midnight. Confirm those three facts and the booking date becomes much easier to read.
